Pelahatchie shooting leaves one dead, suspect in custody

Rankin County Coroner David Ruth identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Pelahatchie, Sunday night, as twenty-one-year-old Brandon Lewis

A suspect in a Sunday evening shooting in Pelahatchie will appear in court on possible manslaughter charges.

Police Chief Joseph Daughtry says the department doesn’t know what motivated the fatal shooting.

The victim was shot in front of a Mom and her young children in 100 block of Brooks around 6:45 pm.

PELAHATCHIE, Miss. (WJTV) – Pelahatchie Police are working a shooting in the 100 blocks of Brooks Avenue.

One man was shot to death in the incident.

Investigators have not said what led to this shooting.

The mayor of Pelahatchie, Ryshonda Beechem, released the following statement:

“On behalf of the town of Pelahatchie, we are completely devastated by the homicide that occurred last night. Our deepest sympathies go out to both families and their loved ones. senseless violence has claimed the life of one person and while we are stunned and grieving over this incomprehensible act of violence. We know that this is a moment when we must come together to prevent more tragedies like this from occurring. The Town of Pelahatchie will do everything in our power to support the families throughout the aftermath of this tragedy and extend our sincere gratitude to the first responders, Pelahatchie Police Department, and EMT for their courageous service.”

At this time, William “Billy” Ray Holly is custody. He is expected to appear in court Monday evening.

The identity of the victim remains unknown at this time.
