PERRY COUNTY – Police say an inmate who used plastic utensils to escape jail on July 21, 2015 has been recaptured.

Perry County Sherrif Jimmy Dale Smith says U.S. Marshals arrested Jason Mazingo on July 22, 2015 and recovered a stolen 2004 White Chevy Envoy in Batesville, MS.

Perry County officials are headed to Panola County to retrieve him.

The sheriff said during his initial escape, Mazingo used his utensils from dinner to manipulate the lock on his cell. Allegedly, he proceeded to steal a Toyota truck and abandoned the vehicle at Paul B. Johnson Park in Forrest County.

The 2004 white Chevy Envoy he was found in, reportedly had MS Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks sticker on the sides and a government tag.

Mozingo was initially arrested for multiple counts of residential burglary.
