Donations needed to fill 18-wheeler

Fire Departments in Jones County are asking for help from community members by filling an 18-wheeler trailer with relief supplies for North Carolina victims of Hurricane Florence. 

Eighteen volunteer fire departments in Jones County have each donated a pallet of bottled water, according to the fire council.

Supplies needed are more bottled water and sports drinks, canned food items, baby formula, diapers and wipes, household bleach, household cleaning supplies, paper towels, toilet paper, manual can openers, flash lights and batteries, mops, buckets, bath towels and hand tools.


The council says clothing items are not needed at this time.

The 18-wheeler and fuel for the trip is is being donated by B Clean Transportation in Laurel and will head for New Bern, North Carolina on Monday,

People can put their donations into the truck at Powers Fire and Rescue at 1975 Hwy 184 in Laurel on Friday from noon until 6 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon and on Sunday from 1p.m. to 5 p.m.
