Pearl River Community College receives funding for workforce training equipment

Pine Belt

HATTIESBURG, Miss.(WHLT) – Pearl River Community College (PRCC) announced its acceptance of $247,266 in funding for new advanced manufacturing equipment.

The funding has been made available through the State of Mississippi and the Mississippi Works fund.

David Collum, Director of the Industrial Electronics Technology Program, says he and a member from the Area Development Partnership (ADP) surveyed several businesses in the Pine Belt to see what they wanted most from graduate students.

“We did personal interviews, we did walk-through’s in the plants. So we didn’t just look at a piece of paper and say this is what they need. We actually met with people, surveyed their equipment, we talked to their employees to get a really good feel for what they need.”

The new high-tech equipment will be fully installed and functional at the PRCC Forrest County Center by the end of April.

Registration for the program is open for the fall semester, but classes are filling fast.
