Seminary girl saves her infant nephew from drowning

SEMINARY, Miss (WJTV) - A nine-year-old girl from Seminary saved her infant nephew from drowning when she jumped into a creek to go after him Sunday.

Sandy Caswell said she was standing on the edge of Terrible Creek in Collins, when she thought she saw a bucket floating in the water. After a closer look, she realized it was her infant nephew, Dwight.

Caswell says when she realized what was happening, she jumped in after him.

"I really don't know how to swim that well, but I was just worried about him so I ran in, jumped in to the water. All I could do was kick my feet up to stay up, and I had to...I started lifting him and pushing him towards his dad."

Caswell says she was just worried about her nephew, but her family is calling her a 'hero'.
