Son arrested in the murder of Hattiesburg High School guidance counselor

STONE COUNTY, Miss (WJTV) - The son of Hattiesburg High School guidance counselor Sherry Johnson has been charged with her murder.


According to Capt. Ray Boggs with the Stone County Sheriff's Department, 29-year-old Terrell Johnson has been charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators are waiting on autopsy results.


Stone County deputies are investigating the death of a Hattiesburg High School guidance counselor,

51-year-old Sherry Johnson was found in her home around 7 p.m. Wednesday night.

Authorities have a person of interest in custody for questioning.

This morning, the district sent out the following statement:

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and all those impacted by the untimely loss of Ms. Sherry Johnson, guidance counselor at Hattiesburg High School. Grief counselors are available at Hattiesburg High School for district employees and students.
