UPDATE: Coroner identifies body found in Jasper County as Tennessee murder suspect

UPDATE: Authorities said the coroner identified the body found in Jasper County as Casey James Lawhorn.

JASPER COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) —  Authorities said a body found in Jasper County is believed to be the man suspected of a double homicide in Tennessee

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department posted on its Facebook page that law enforcement located  who they believe is 22-year-old Casey James Lawhorn dead in Vossburg, Miss. Authorities said it appears he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The coroner and other law enforcement agencies are on the scene.

Tennessee authorities were looking for Lawhorn in connection with murders happened in East Ridge, Tennessee. 

Warren Strain of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety said the suspect used social media and claimed responsibility for the deaths of his mother, Vi Lawhorn, and a friend, Avery Gaines. 

Mississippi authorities starting searching for Lawhorn after they received a report that someone saw him at a convenience store in Heidelberg on Sunday.  He was traveling in a  Ford Taurus, was found abandoned in the southbound shoulder of I-59 in Jasper County approximately five miles from the store.

The investigation is ongoing.
