Exactly two months ago, Doc Sadler stepped down as the head men’s basketball coach at Southern Miss. Tuesday, the program picked up one of the top players from Alabama.
After a stellar senior year at Westminster Christian, Auston Leslie signed on the dotted with the Golden Eagles.
The Class 3A Player of the Year averaged 19 points and 9 rebounds this year, leading his team to a spot in the state title game. And, Auston said that when the offers started flooding in.
Tuesday, he chose to take his talents to Hattiesburg because that’s where he felt really at home.
“Before this I didn’t really have any offers until basically the state championship and it worked out for the best,” Leslie said.
“They’re like really genuine people up there, and they feel like a family and that’s what I really was looking for in a college. I prayed about it, I talked to my family, and I feel that’s where God wants me to be.”
