Clay County deputy injured in shooting

CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A Clay County deputy was injured in a shooting Thursday night in the Cedar Bluff community.

WCBI reported a deputy was shot while trying to remove someone to safety from the home near Highway 46 and Gates Road. The bullet grazed the deputy’s head, and he was taken to a Tupelo hospital for treatment.

A stand-off followed the shooting, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) SWAT team was called to the scene.

Authorities said Tommy Gandy was inside the home and was taken into custody. They also said Gandy was involved in a similar standoff with law enforcement on Highway 46 in 2013.
