OXFORD, Miss. (WJTV) – Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened in Lafayette County.

The shooting, which involved the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, happened around 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19 near Highway 334.

According to deputies, they received a call about a man arguing with a woman. When they arrived at the scene, deputies found a woman outside of the home while her two children, ages 19 and 16, were barricaded inside of their rooms.

Deputies said they began negotiating with the male suspect to let the children go and for him to come outside without the weapon.

During the negotiation, investigators said the man pointed a weapon at deputies who fired their weapons. The man was shot and died from his injuries.

Once MBI completes their investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
