The Scott County Sheriff’s office is investigating animal abuse allegations after a dog was found dead and another they say looked malnourished …at a deer hunting club.
There were dozens of dogs at the Scott County Hunting Club in Lena. The owners of the dogs say they are well taken care of.
According to Sheriff Mike Lee, the department received the mistreatment complaint Friday. They’re working with the owners of the dogs. Authorities met with them this morning.
Sheriff Lee says they take the accusations seriously. “We have some evidence, photos, our investigators did several things and we’ve taken a look at it. We take these cases seriously.”
A statement from the owners says:
“These dogs are more than just animals to us. They are family. These dogs have sufficient food, water, shade and shelter.
