Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann to send soldiers voting materials

State

It’s a different kind of care package. The Secretary of State’s office will be sending absentee voting packages to the Mississippians defending our country.

The Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act helps active service members get their ballot (and their vote) where it needs to go.

Those eligible can fill out a federal postcard application to register to vote for the first time and request an absentee ballot for the upcoming election.

“All the things that we rely on each other to help us through our day to day lives will not be available to over three thousand Mississippians as they are placed in harms way. so with that we wanted to make sure that these individuals had their right to vote continued,” said Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann

More than 3,200 Mississippi National Guard soldiers are training at Fort Bliss in Texas before deploying to the Middle East.

4-thousand wallet-sized cards are on their way to them. Training packets for the officers in charge of distributing the materials will be sent along with the cards.

The FPCA form, ballot, and step-by-step instructions on how to complete both are available on Y’all Vote.

Other upcoming election deadlines include:

  • Saturday, April 21: absentee balloting begins.
  •  Monday, May 7: voter registration deadline to vote in the June 5 Primary Election for Mississippians other than UOCAVA citizens.
  • Tuesday, June 5: Primary Election Day/party primary candidates only—polling places open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
