VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) The Coast Guard said they are responding to another  accident on the Mississippi River near Vicksburg.

This is the third incident that has happened this week in that area.

Officials said the towing vessel Robert D. Byrd hit the Vicksburg Railroad Bridge around 7:44 a.m. Thursday. It happened near 435.8 mile marker.

No barges broke free this time.

The Vicksburg Railroad Bridge will remain closed until a safety inspection is completed by the Vicksburg Bridge Commission and the State of Mississippi. The Coast Guard said they are evaluating additional navigation safety measures in order to reduce the potential for future marine accidents.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
