Two children still being treated after dog attack last week


UPDATE: 11/14/2016 10:04am WHLT is learning more about the attack by a dog on two children in Biloxi.

Lieutenant Christopher Deback of the Biloxi Police Department says that the incident took place late in the afternoon on Thursday.

The dog was out for a walk with the owner, supervised but not on a leash when the attack occurred.  The dog is a pit bull with no previous history of violence.  The owner has turned the dog over to animal control.  If it has not already been euthanized, police say, it will be soon in accordance with the law regarding such attacks.

A neighbor called police to report the attack.

The victims are two boys under the age of 16.  Their identities are not being released.  Both are still being treated at regional hospitals.

Biloxi, Mississippi (WHLT) Two children are hospitalized following an alleged attack by a dog in Biloxi.

Few details are known at this time but, according to a written release from Nick Sonnier of the Biloxi Police Department, one of the children was “transported by life flight to a specialty hospital (because of) the seriousness of his injuries.  The animal that attacked the juveniles was taken into custody by Biloxi Police Animal Control.”

Police say that the incident, which is still under investigation, took place on the 2500 block of Shady Lane on Thursday, November 10, 2016.

The conditions of the children are unknown at this time.

WHLT is investigating and will provide more information as soon as it is available.
