USM’s comeback falls short in season-ending 85-75 loss to Marshall

A day after pulling off an upset of top-seeded Middle Tennessee State, Southern Miss fell short of pulling off the unlikely on Friday.

The Golden Eagles lost to Marshall 85-75 in the semifinals of the Conference USA tournament. They had trailed by as much as 24 points before battling back to get within six.

Cortez Edwards dropped a career-high 30 points to lead USM while Jon Elmore led the Thundering Herd with 26 points, nine assists and nine rebounds.

Southern Miss finishes the season at 16-18, its best record since the 2013-2014 season.
