Madison County was on fire over the weeken, with the Velma Jackson boys powerlifting team also winning a state championship in 3A.
The Falcons have a won 7 state titles in 12 years under head coach Casey Meeks.
“I told them from the beginning that if they come in and work and do the things that I ask them to do, they would have a chance to go out on top as seniors with a state championship and they did just that,” said Meeks.
“It was a priviledge and an honor to come back and to coach at the school that I graduated from,” said assistant coach Kiera Draine, who also won a state title while at Velma Jackson. “And, what was even more of an honor was to watch and see these guys come into the weight room, work hard everyday, and achieve their ultimate goal which is to become a state championship.”
“We had no days off, we were grinding Monday through Fridays, even on Saturdays,” said senior Dominic James.
“From day one Coach Meeks said it was going to take a lot of work, so we accepted it and we did it,” senior Abrim James said.
