CANTON, Miss. (WJTV) – One Madison County mom has been living with her three kids in an apartment for nearly a decade, but that will soon change.

Dozens of people picked tools and braved the extreme heat to build her a new home.

“It feels wonderful, I’m excited, said Mylinda Phillips. “I’m excited about actually owning my own home”

The Habitat for Humanity home is being built on Coleman Street.

About 50 volunteers came out to help build two homes on that street. Phillips will receive one of them.

“It feels really good to know that I’m having a part in my house,” she said. So I can say that I put that nail there, or I helped to life this, or I helped to pull that. So I’m excited.

Habitat for Humanity and Nissan team up to build the home

Nissan and Habitat for Humanity have been partners since 2006. The car company has helped build more than 60 homes across the nation.
