Wildfire in Copiah County burns more than 350 acres

The Mississippi Forestry Commission says a wildfire started in Copiah County Sunday afternoon.

We’re told that fire is now contained, but the fire spread more than 350 acres.

The fire started off Old Port Gibson Road near Highway 27.

According to authorities, twelve firefighters are on scene as well as five fire suppression dozers.

One bulldozer went down and the hose ruptured, according to the forestry commission.

Right now crews are in the mop up phase to make sure the green areas aren’t at risk, according to authorities.

We’re told the fire was able to get so big because it jumped off the ground and moved throughout a pine plantation and the drought contributed.

Authorities say crews will probably be out all night

No one was injured.
