BRANDON, Miss. (WJTV) – If you are looking for an award that does a pretty good job of identifying future success, look no further than the Mississippi Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year.
The 2018 winner is Brandon’s J.T. Ginn.
“You see the names that have won it, you see what they’re doing with their careers and everything,” said Ginn. “It’s kinda promising to be on that same path that some of those guys have taken.”
The honor is another big award for a young man who will be making a big league decision next week. It’s a path that is unlike most of his peers.
Last summer, he played in the Under Armour All America Game at Wrigley Field in Chicago as well as the Perfect Game All-American Classic at Petco Park in San Diego, CA. He also recorded the last out for Team USA to win the World Baseball Softball Confederation Championship. That memory sticks out the most.
“that’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my life,” Ginn said. “Especially being out there for that first pitch, getting that last out, everybody runs out there, dogpiles. It was a pretty amazing feeling.”
Well hearing his name called in next week’s Major League draft will be a pretty good feeling, too. At the same time, the Mississippi State signee is intent on playing baseball in Starkville next school year.
“Mississippi state is the way i wanna go. that’s my place. i’ve been committed there since 9th grade. every time i step in the stadium, it’s chill bumps. i can’t be more excited to be up there to be a part of that.”
just ready to see what happens and just how it plays out.”
