Ellis, Swanson, Peterson to start in Southern League All-Star Game


PEARL, Miss. (WJTV) – Three Mississippi Braves will be starting in the Southern League at Trustmark Park on June 21.

Chris Ellis, an Ole Miss alumnus, will be the starting pitcher for the South division. Ellis is 7-2 this season with a 2.85 ERA. Opposing hitters are just hitting .197 against him.

Joining Ellis will be 2015 number one overall pick Dansby Swanson and designated hitter Dustin Peterson. Swanson is hitting .261 with four home runs and 17 RBI’s for the M-Braves in 34 games this season.

Peterson is tied for the team lead in home runs with five while leading the team in RBI’s with 31.

Catcher Willians Astudillo is also an All-Star this season. He’s hitting .246 with 19 RBI’s while striking out just six times this year.
