MADISON, Miss. (WJTV) – Germantown begins the 5A North Semifinals Thursday night against Lewisburg.
This will be just the second time in five years Germantown doesn’t have to play either New Hope or Oxford in the playoffs.
Opponent, however, doesn’t matter to the Mavericks.
To get his team ready for a deep postseason run, head coach Brian Hardy says he worked on keeping things competitive with his team all school year.
“One thing this generation is struggling with is there is a winner and a loser,” Hardy said. “Not everybody’s gonna win. We wanted to prove that in the fall that we want guys that understand that.”
The players caught on to that idea.
“We have a lot of guys that have the refuse to lose mentality and that’s just really helped us get through this season and get to the point where we’re at right now,” senior outfielder Benjamin Bell said.
“We wanna win, no matter how it is,” senior outfielder and pitcher Connor Carter said. “Whether we score ten runs in a game or whether it’s a 1-0 game, winning is the ultimate goal, no matter how we do it. we just wanna get it done.”
