Rebuilding Hillcrest football

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Hillcrest Christian football team has a new head coach this season and the new head man inherits a serious rebuilding project.

Brett Warren is in charge this season. When he took over the team in the spring, there were only 9 players on the roster.

A big reason for the low turnout was the team’s winless record from last season.

However, Warren has worked to get the roster to 28 players. At the same time, the team says they want to play for their new coach.

“Coach did a lot for the program. He’s came and put a lot of the trust back in coaches that we not really used to having here,” senior running back J.C. Harris said. “We can feel real secure with coach knowing that he’s trying to build with our program.

Sophomore running back Reagan Britt is in his first year at Hillcrest. He says Warren has the team excited about the season.

“He’s pretty much giving everyone a chance,” Britt said. “He preaches family every day, and once you start hearing family, you kinda wanna be part of a team.”
