WJTV – In her first Olympic games, Sand Hill native and Southern Miss alumnus Tori Bowie won a silver medal in the women’s 100 meter dash on Saturday night.

The Pisgah High School alumnus finished with a time of 10.83 seconds. Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson took home the gold at 10.71 seconds while fellow Jamaican Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce won the bronze, finishing with a time of 10.86 seconds.

Bowie will race in two more events in Rio de Janeiro: the women’s 200 meter and the 4×100 meter relay.

Meanwhile, Hinds Community College alumnus Jeff Henderson took home the gold medal in the men’s long jump event. During his time at Hinds, he won three NJCAA national champions (two in long jump, and one in 4×100 meter relay).
