Student loan debt relief: Biden tells Education Department to pause payments until October

(NEXSTAR) - Federal student loan holders won't immediately see the kind of massive debt forgiveness that Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass) and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) have been pushing for from the Biden administration, but they will get a break on paying back loans as the country attempts to rebound from the pandemic.

Biden is asking the Education Department to extend a pause on federal student loan payments through at least Sept. 30, continuing a moratorium that began early in the pandemic but was set to expire at the end of January.

Local professor explains expectations for President Biden’s first 100 days

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) - President Joe Biden has began to take executive action to undo some of the actions by President Donald Trump. Millsaps College professor Nathan Schrader broke down Biden's plan during his first 100 days in the White House.

"I think we're going to hear him talk more about the need, as he said, to ending an uncivil war in American politics. But, I also think what we're going to see is a flurry of executive orders to undo some of the more controversial and objectionable actions implemented by President Trump, especially on things such as immigration, the Muslim travel ban and the Paris Climate Agreement."

Copiah County player wins $1 million from Mega Millions ticket

COPIAH COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) - A Copiah County player who purchased a Mega Millions ticket in Mississippi has won $1 million.

According to the Mississippi Lottery Corporation (MLC), the ticket sold at RBs One Stop on Highway 28 in Hazlehurst for Wednesday night’s Mega Millions drawing. It matched all five white ball winning numbers worth $1 million. The player did not choose the Megaplier option and chose to remain anonymous.
