The Food and Drug Administration announced Wednesday it has stopped routine food inspections amid the ongoing partial government shutdown.

FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb said the administration will bring back employees next week to continue checking the riskiest foods like cheese and baby formula.

Other agencies will continue to do their own inspections.

The Department of Agriculture handles meat and poultry products. The Centers for Disease Control handles tainted food outbreaks.
