Storm Team 12: Today’s Forecast

7 Day Forecast

SATURDAY: Expect a mix of clouds and sun through the day, with some isolated to scattered showers as the weak disturbance transits northern Mississippi. Most shower activity will be kept in the Delta and northern Mississippi, but there is a low chance for some showers into the Jackson metro during the day. Most folks will stay dry, but any showers could produce a brief downpour or rumble of thunder. Afternoon highs will yet again be warm, in the mid 70s.

SUNDAY: Partly to mostly cloudy with continued warmth. Breezy, with a wind from the southwest 10 to 15 mph, with some gusts up to 25 mph possible. Afternoon highs will climb into the mid to upper 70s.

SUNDAY NIGHT: A cold front is forecast to cross our region early next week, and we’ve be pushing the timing of the cold front more and more into Monday. But ahead of the front, we could see some showers and rumbles of thunder pop up after midnight.

MONDAY: As the cold front passes, expect a wet Monday, with showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. A few thunderstorms could be on the stronger side, with some gusty winds and heavy rain, but widespread severe storms are not likely. The rain itself will actually be welcomed, as the entire region is facing a significant rainfall deficit from the past several months. Afternoon temperatures will turn cooler as the front departs by evening, only in the lower 60s.

TUESDAY and BEYOND: Unsettled weather will continue through much of the rest of the week. A low pressure system will start to organize in the southern Great Plains on Tuesday, and southerly winds ahead of the low will push Monday’s cold front back into Central Mississippi as a warm front, bringing warmer and more humid conditions, along with some showers on Tuesday. Then as that low approaches, expect more wet weather Wednesday into Thursday, with a low potential for a few stronger thunderstorms, although we’ll continue to fine tune the severe potential as we go through the next several days.
